Rape Prevention Check List
Rape can happen to people of all ages, economic backgrounds and occupations. It is a crime intended to humiliate and harm the victim. It is extremely critical to be aware of signs to look for and precautions to take in order to stay safe and not vulnerable to this crime.
Take caution using these preventative measures:
q If you must go to a store after dark, park in a well-lit area.
q Walk confidently with a steady pace. Never look vulnerable, because this is what rapists look for.
q Walk in areas where there are people around. Avoid dark alleys, or places with large bushes where rapists can hide. Be aware of everything around you.
q Make sure all windows are securely locked at all times.
q Install peepholes with wide-angled views.
q Keep blinds or curtains closed at night.
q If you lose your keys, get your locks changed.
q Rather than using your first name, put your initials on your mailbox or in the telephone book.
q Avoid confronting prowlers.
q Avoid going out alone at night.
q Do not allow strangers into your home. If a stranger asks to use the phone, get the number and information and place the call for him.
